Christmas Day at Marshmallows

It is Christmas Day, and Mr. Walton is giving a sermon. In the congregation he sees Catherine Weir, the unfriendly lady from the shop. It is the first time he has ever seen her in church. He also is surprised to catch Mr. Brownrigg awake during the sermon, another first.

Returning home he remembers a promise he made to Judy, to find out the meaning of her beautiful aunt Ethelwyn's name. He discovers that Ethelwyn means "home-joy" or "inheritance."

He goes out to visit the poor in the parish and finds that Judy is visiting Old Rogers. Her aunt and grandmother have gone to another parish on some urgent business.

He takes a box of watercolors to Gerard, the little boy who wants to be a painter. His mother Catherine still looks unwell but is more friendly than before.

He returns home for Christmas dinner with his housekeeper, then goes out for a few more visits. Gerard brings him some Christmas goodies from his mother, which Mr. Walton eats right away to the delight of the boy.

He is able to visit everyone except for Mrs. Oldcastle, Ethelwyn, Judy, and Mr. Stoddard.
