An Evening at the Curate's House

A snowstorm is brewing as John and the Colonel, Adela, Percy and his mother all set out for an evening at the Curate's house. Thankfully they reach their destination before the storm reaches its full force. The Curate's house is smaller and more simple than the Colonel's. There is a fire in the fireplace, and a piano in the corner of the room.
While the snow storms outside, the group enjoys some music from the Curate's wife, Mrs. Armstrong. She sings a thought-provoking song, and John thinks to himself that she could write a story if she would try. Next Adela and Harry sing gloomy ballads, and Harry also sings a long song about a suitor waiting hours and hours for his beloved, who arrives at the end of the tenth verse. The Curate follows with a song about a storm.

Now there is a knock on the door, and Harry the doctor is called away to attend to a woman in labor. Adela begs him not to go out in the storm, but Dr. Armstrong goes. When the group goes home from the Curate's house, Adela can't sleep. She sits all night by the window until she catches a glimpse of Harry on his way home early in the morning. Then she goes to sleep until noon.
