John has finished his Shadow story. For a moment there is silence. Adela is curious about the shadows that look like people. John tells her he thinks they are the shadows of the mind, while the other Shadows are Shadows of the body.

The group is invited to meet at the Curate's house the following week, for music this time, and not stories. Dr. Harry pronounces Adela healthy enough to travel out of the house for this, and they all part company.

The next day John takes Adela out for a walk. She is feeling better and does not catch a cold.
