The ballad is about two brothers named Gordon who fight a duel because they are both in love with the same woman. One brother dies in the duel, and becomes a ghost. He (the ghost) disguises himself as a knight and follows his brother to the Crusades. He looks after his brother throughout the years of war, and is never recognized. He is restored to life many years later, when his brother repents.
Harry's brother the Curate offers to read a short story to make up for the shortness of the ballad. It is the story of boy who goes to the ocean for a vacation with his family. While they are there, he befriends a homeless girl who lives in the ruin of a castle in the cliffs by the ocean. His family does their best to help the girl while they are there. Thankfully she has friends in the town there who also look after her. In the end they say good-bye the girl and return home.
Harry thanks his brother for supplying the story that night and promises to do his best to finish his own story to read the next week.
